GEMC · Gradara Early Music Campus “Il Music Perfetto”
The Charm of Early Music · Marche & Rocca di Gradara
Looking for a musical journey that blends artistry, early Italian repertoire, and the beauty of an unforgettable landscape? From 17 to 23 August 2025, join us at the GEMC Gradara Early Music Campus “Il Musico perfetto”, where the evocative setting of the Rocca di Gradara becomes the stage for an immersive experience in Renaissance and Baroque music and practice.
Nestled among the rolling hills of the Marche region (close to Pesaro and Urbino), just a few minutes from the Adriatic Sea, Gradara offers the perfect backdrop for a week of singing and playing “by heart” and “at sight,” just as it was done centuries ago. Daily sessions explore solmisation, counterpoint, oranmentation, improvisation, and ensemble performance, with a strong focus on historical pedagogy and sources.
Led by Fabrizio Lepri, Stefano Lorenzetti and Livio Ticli – under the artistic coordination of Marcello Mazzetti and in collaboration with Vicenza Conservatory, Palma Choralis® Ensemble and Umbra Lucis Ensemble – the course is open to singers, ensemble directors, and performers on historical instruments such as lute, harp, Renaissance winds and strings, and historical keyboards. GEMC culminates in two final concerts and includes performances of Renaissance masterworks, including the Missa Papae Marcelli in the four-part version with basso continuo by Francesco Anerio (Roma, 1646).
Whether you are looking to deepen your skills, broaden your repertoire, or simply be inspired by music in one of Italy’s most charming historical settings, GEMC offers a unique summer experience where learning, culture, and beauty meet.

Teaching staff & Artists in residence
Fabrizio Lepri began his musical journey with classical bowed instruments before specializing in the viola da gamba and historically informed performance at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. There, he studied with eminent figures such as Wieland Kuijken, Gustav Leonhardt, Philippe Herreweghe, Bartold Kuijken, Anner Bylsma, Jos van Immerseel, Andreas Staier, and Paul Van Nevel. Upon completion of his studies, he was awarded a Master’s degree in Viola da Gamba, as well as the corresponding Italian academic diploma with honours. He maintains an active concert career across Europe – including Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Russia – appearing in renowned venues such as the International Centre of Culture (Brussels), Neues Theater (Munich), Sheremetev Palace (St. Petersburg), Roerich Palace (Moscow), the Academia Belgica (Rome), the Accademia Bartolomeo Cristofori (Florence), the Flanders Festival, the Festival del Ticino, the Sagra Musicale Umbra, and the Macerata Opera Festival. His collaborations include performances with Erik Van Nevel, René Van Laeke, Marco Ferrari, Andrea Damiani, Sigrun Richter, Cappilla Flamenca, Salon des Musiques, and Partibus Orientis. He has recorded for RAI Radio 3, RTBF 2, and Bayerischer Rundfunk 4 Klassik, and has released numerous CDs both as a soloist (Discovery Label) and in chamber ensembles (GAM UT). He currently teaches Viola da Gamba at the Conservatory of Music in Perugia and Consort and Baroque Music at the International Masterclasses in Chiusi della Verna.
Stefano Lorenzetti studied organ and harpsichord with Kenneth Gilbert and earned his Ph. D. in History and Civilization at the European University Institute of Florence. His dual vocation as a musician and musicologist led him to explore forgotten practices, experienced in several recordings devoted to Italian Renaissance composers which have found favour with the international critics. His scholarship includes numerous journal articles on the history of ideas, on the Italian liturgical music and on the relationship of music and the art of memory. The monograph Musica e identità nobiliare nell’Italia del Rinascimento. Educazione, mentalità, immaginario published by Olschki in 2003, was received with great interest by the international scientific community. He has given concerts and conferences throughout Europe and the United States. Since 2014 he has been artistic director, together with Fabrizio Lepri, of the Festival of ancient music Alla Battaglia! in Anghiari and founder of the Umbra Lucis ensemble. The Early Music Review named his latest recording of music for organ by Giovanni Gabrieli : “a masterclass in timing, he judges spread chords notated with very great subtlety .” Currently, he is professor of the History of music at Conservatory of music of Vicenza, and teaches harpsichord at the International master classes of Chiusi della Verna. He is former fellow of The Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University in the City of New York.
In addition to being course instructors, Marcello Mazzetti (lute, tenor, contrappunto alla mente) and Livio Ticli (harpsichord, hautecontre, ornamentation) will serve as artists in residence at the campus. They are musicologists and performers who have been invited as guests to USA and European universities and who teach at conservatoires, universities, and academies in Italy (Universities of Padua and Turin, Academies of Bologna, Venice and Rome, Conservatoires of Salerno and Brescia, ISTIMA · Italian Institute for Early Music). For more than twenty years, they have jointly directed research, teaching, and performance projects spanning the Renaissance and Baroque periods for Palma Choralis® and other prestigious ensembles, with concerts, masterclasses, and lectures in Italy, Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Hungary), Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
