Network & Artists in residence

Palma Choralis has embarked on numerous international partnerships over the years to deliver musical and cultural projects: the University of Massachusetts · Department of Music and Dance, the Five College Early Music Programme and Mount Holyhoke College (Massachusetts-USA, 2016-present).

In 2024, SEMC will have the honour of hosting international artists in residence, thanks to the help and generosity of the municipality of Sarteano, the mayor Francesco Landi and Nadia Straccali.

Jamie-Rose Guarrine (Soprano), a member of the Massachusetts National Association of Teachers of Singers, with an incredible career as an accomplished interpreter of Mozart opera, has performed in some of the world’s most renowned theatres and with famous orchestras, including Los Angeles Opera, Minnesota Opera, The Santa Fe Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Chicago Opera Theater, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, The National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, and the Santa Fe Symphony.

Karl Knapp (Cello), a dedicated and active Suzuki educator with over twenty years of teaching experience, also has a rich background in solo and chamber music performances. He recently served as Principal Cellist with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Arctic Chamber Orchestra and the Juneau Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Madison Opera Orchestra, and Minnesota Opera Orchestra, among many others.

In addition to being artists in residence, Marcello Mazzetti (Lute, Tenor, Contrappunto alla mente) and Livio Ticli (Harpsichord, Hautecontre, Ornamentation) will serve as directors and course instructors at the campus. They are musicologists and performers who have been invited as guests to American and European universities and who teach at conservatoires, universities, and academies in Italy (Universities of Padua and Turin, Academies of Bologna and Venice, Conservatoires of Genoa and Brescia, ISTIMA · Italian Institute of Early Music). For more than twenty years, they have jointly directed research, teaching, and performance projects spanning the Renaissance and Baroque periods for Palma Choralis® and other prestigious ensembles, with concerts, masterclasses, and lectures in Italy, Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Hungary), Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
